Nearness is about renewal – refreshing tired models, revamping stale patterns, repairing broken motifs, and finding hope where you least expect it. Renewal is about rejuvenation and refreshment; extra chances and self-improvement; the personal desire for creative re-awaking. Renewal is a powerful force of resistance and reinvention.

Importantly, renewal is not the same as redemption. Redemption implies that previous sins, debts, and mistakes have been made; and recovery requires atonement and deliverance. Conversely, renewal does not imply that any earlier mistakes or errors have been committed.

Musically, this collection falls into the broad jam rock category with elements of progressive rock, funk, and fusion all swirled together on top of persistent mid-tempo rhythms, interlinked instruments, and infectious grooves. All of this is topped with strong vocal leads, unexpected lyrics, bright harmonies, and unusual pacing.

Why would anybody want to be like someone else
Why does everybody try to be the same
You were everything that I had hoped to find someday
You had everything and let it get away

“I think of my songs as small journeys, both in their creation and also for the listener. Song ideas can start anywhere: a memorable rhythm, a lyrical phrase, a strong bass line; a concrete idea – northern lights, lost love; and especially an emotional theme – wistful regret, tentative optimism. The inspirations are endless and I always connect each song with a specific feeling. When successful, the final presentation can help transport the audience to a new place.”
